Diamond Eichelberger and daughter Belle
The killing put Kansas City’s homicide total at 106 for the year so far. Last year’s total was 150.
20 year old Diamond Eichelberger was getting snacks for her child at the store around 11:30 a.m. when a gunman in a black car pulled up to them and shot the mom at least five times
Pregnant Diamond Eichelberger was shot and killed at a 7-Eleven in Kansas City while pushing her 14-month-old child in a stroller, reports said.
The child was not injured, but as a precaution was transported to a nearby hospital to be examined.
“It’s just crazy, it’s just sad,” one witness told the network. “She got family, it’s like a domino effect. Her kids are going to have to grow up without her.”
Eichelberger’s aunt, Thelma Rowell said the woman was “always happy, even when she was going through things, she was always happy.”
A GoFundme has also been set up to support Eichelberger’s family.
The shooter was still at large Tuesday night.
Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas, who has been publicly working with federal agents to help combat the surge of homicides, addressed the killing.
“That murderer is somewhere out there today,” he said in a statement.
“Somebody knows who did it. Somebody knows perhaps the weapon that was involved in it. We need to do all we can to make sure we prevent tragedies like that one.”
